Ally McCoist: Everton striker Richarlison not good enough for big money move to Chelsea
Ally McCoist believes Everton striker Richarlison isn’t good enough to take Chelsea to the next level should he make the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Daily Mail reported on 20 June, that the West London club have joined Arsenal and Tottenham in pursuing a deal for the 25-year-old Brazilian.
However, McCoist believes that despite a good season for the Toffees, the attacker won’t have the quality needed to take Chelsea closer to Liverpool and Manchester City.
Talking on talkSPORT breakfast on Thursday 23 June, McCoist said: “I don’t think he is [ good enough].
“I mean I think he’s a good player, but I think for Chelsea to get back up to the next level of competing for the title, I’m not sure he will get you the goals to be honest with you.
“Whereas someone like Haaland guarantees you 20 goals
“I’d take Robert Lewandowski all day, he’s a proper and proven goalscorer.”
Deserves a shot
Regardless of the Brazilian’s ability, he deserves a shot at playing Champions League football irrespective of whether he will make an impact.
15 goal involvements in a side that struggled for most of the season is good going for the attacker and with Everton potentially looking to raise some funds this season, a move away does look sensible for both parties.
Richarlison deserves his shot at a Champions League club and with the 2022 Qatar World Cup just around the corner, it makes sense for the Brazilian to test himself at the highest level.
He was instrumental in the Toffees’ survival and Evertonians will be forever grateful, but at 25, it is time for the attacker to enter the prime of his career at the highest level possible.
It certainly wouldn’t be a shock to see the striker make a difference for Chelsea, should he move to Stamford Bridge.
He’s been a good servant at Goodison Park and if he departs he will likely be warmly regarded by most Evertonians.
