Everton in talks to sign Harry Winks, swap deal discussed for Richarlison to join Tottenham
Everton are not at an advanced stage in their bid to sign Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on Thursday (23 June, page 72) that the Blues have “held further talks” about signing the 26-year-old midfielder and would prefer a loan agreement with Spurs.
It is understood that Winks has also been discussed as a potential “makeweight” in a deal that would see Richarlison head to Tottenham.
Two birds with one stone?
Everton need to add to their squad this summer because we’ve seen a number of players leave and that’s seriously depleted Frank Lampard’s options.
He’s been left with a big issue to sort out in the middle of the park and while Winks has had an underwhelming couple of seasons with Tottenham, he’d definitely be an upgrade on some of the players we currently have at Goodison Park.
Signing him on loan would make sense from a Financial Fair Play perspective but you’d imagine that Tottenham will want to agree a permanent deal as Winks is in the final two years of his £40,000-a-week contract [Times] now.
If they leave it until next summer, they probably won’t be able to get as much money.
With Richarlison, we don’t want to see him leave but the Blues are surely desperate to raise funds and cashing in on the club’s most valuable player could help a lot.
No one wants Richarlison to leave but it does feel as though there’s a good chance it’ll happen this summer. At the end of the day, he doesn’t deserve to be in Premier League relegation battles.
It remains to be seen what sort of money Spurs would stump up for Richarlison if they agreed a swap deal for Winks too but it could be enough to help Lampard find a replacement for the Brazilian and maybe add another central midfield player.
