Everton to pursue new midfielders as Harry Winks impasse shared - Sky Sports
Everton are now set to pursue new midfielders after talks to sign Spurs maestro Harry Winks hit an impasse, according to Sky Sports.
It was first reported by i News that the Toffees had hit a wall in their move to sign the England international, with the added information that other midfielders were on the shortlist.
Sky Sports have followed that on by sharing that those other targets are now set to be pursued with Frank Lampard putting his foot on the pedal.
Writing in their live blog on Thursday evening (23 June), Sky Sports shared reasons behind the potential issues in a deal to sign Winks.
“Everton are now said to be pursuing other targets with the club unlikely to be able to spend £20m on one player until the end of the financial year or until a player is sold,” they wrote.
No messing around.
Kevin Thelwell has delivered a new philosophy since arriving as director alongside Lampard, and this is exactly what has been missing for years at Goodison Park.
If talks to sign Winks have hit an impasse, why carry on messing around? You have to react by looking elsewhere and lining up other targets beforehand certainly helps that.
Should the likes of Conor Gallagher at Chelsea become available on loan, that would be a much better option, but that one may not become available until towards the end of the window.
Lampard clearly wants reinforcements there, but he will not be taken for a fool and be forced into spending money that isn’t there to spend, he won’t be reckless as others have been.
A new midfielder is next on the wishlist, and it may not be long until we see another name appear in links to Goodison Park, hopefully very soon.
