Everton manager Frank Lampard faces more pressure than any other Premier League boss – Danny Murphy

Everton boss Frank Lampard faces more pressure than any other manager in the Premier League, according to TalkSport’s Danny Murphy.

Lampard was appointed as Toffees boss in January and managed to steer the club away from relegation, though it was a tight squeeze.

Murphy and Ade Oladipo were discussing manager pressure live on TalkSport on Friday afternoon (24 June), with the latter believing Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard faced the most pressure.

Murphy refuted those claims, singling out Lampard alongside Arsenal manager and former Toffees star Mikel Arteta as his picks.

“I think every manager has pressure including [Gerrard],” he said.

“In terms of the start of the season, Lampard and Arteta are under more pressure at the start of the season.

“I think there would be a bigger uproar if they started the season badly.”

Lampard will be aware of the pressures

The 2021/22 season was one of the worst for Everton in recent memory, finishing in 16th place and only surviving by four points.

Lampard’s team simply were not good enough, memorable wins over Manchester United and Chelsea aside.

However, he is well aware of the pressures of management and how quickly things can turn.

He was widely praised after his first season at Chelsea, with former teammate Branislav Ivanovic tipping him as the next England manager in December 2020.

Lampard was sacked less than two months after those comments were made.

His job is not getting any easier with Richarlison being permanently linked with a move away from the club and transfer funds being limited.

However, his first season at Chelsea saw how well he can handle a difficult transfer situation as he rode out a transfer ban to finish fourth.

Everton need to avoid a repeat of last season and Lampard will be heading out the door with a bad start, but he is well-equipped to deal with the situation.
