Everton signing workhorse Gini Wijnaldum will transform midfield
Everton have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window, according to 90min.
The Dutch midfielder hasn’t been able to replicate his form at the French club that made him one of the finest midfielders in the world during his time at Liverpool.
Frank Lampard has prioritized the improvement of his midfield options for this summer which was extremely fragile in the majority of the 2021-22 season.
The former Newcastle man has two years left on his current contract with PSG and is valued at £16.20 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Workhorse
Everton and Liverpool’s rivalry is nothing new and it is not normal for a former player of either club to be tipped for a move to the other side.
We have already seen how big of a disaster Rafa Benitez was as a manager when he came to Everton, largely because of his connections with Liverpool previously.
However, despite all of those concerns, Wijnaldum’s signing will prove to be a stroke of genius for Everton.
If you ask Liverpool fans about the Dutch midfielder, they will always remember him for the two goals he scored against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final.
However, apart from those goals, Wijnaldum was an extremely hardworking midfielder. The former Newcastle man can play both as an advanced midfielder and a box-to-box midfielder. We have seen many times how he used to pop in the box during his time at Anfield.
Despite his poor time at PSG, he can revamp his career at Everton and will be a massive upgrade on all the players currently present there.
