Sky Sports pundit backs Frank Lampard on decision over Everton forward Nathan Broadhead
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Frank Lampard is “well within his rights” to want to keep Nathan Broadhead at Everton until he’s assessed him says Kevin Campbell.
The Northern Echo reported last week (19 June) that the Toffees boss was “reluctant” to let the 24-year-old go to Sunderland, despite the Black Cats being keen to take him back after transfer talks.
Entering the final year of his contract and with only two senior appearances to his name at the club it might seem like he would be a prime candidate to be sold, but Sky Sports pundit Campbell thinks Lampard is doing the right thing in having a first-hand look at the forward before making a decision.

On the idea that the ship has sailed for Broadhead at Everton he told Goodison News: “No not necessarily because Frank Lampard has only been there half a season.
“So he’s well within his rights to have a look at everybody.
“There’s players who he has never even seen. He’s never seen Nathan Broadhead.
“So I think the smart move is to have a look at him and see what he’s like.
“If he’s half decent he might use him. If he’s not then he might think, ‘Okay, you know what, let’s do some business’.
“So I think it’s the smart move.”

The club needs cash through sales and while Broadhead is unlikely to bring in a major fee in the same way someone like Richarlison might everything helps.
It would be a surprise if he found himself as part of the senior squad for the 2022/23 season but stranger things have happened in football.
Lampard doesn’t have the luxury of endless options at the moment so if he doesn’t expect a sale here to make a big difference to his transfer business then perhaps keeping the extra body around for now is more sensible.
