Everton: Jarrad Branthwaite should stay in England and reject European loan move

Jarrad Branthwaite looks destined to leave Everton on loan during this summer transfer window but he needs to choose where he ends up wisely.

The 19-year-old, who turns 20 years of age on Monday 27 June, has attracted interest from two clubs in Europe as well as six Championship sides who all want to take him for a year [Daily Mail].

PSV Eindhoven appear to lead the race with Marcel Brands, formerly of the Toffees, a key figure at the Eredivisie club while Schalke are keen to make him a part of their squad for their first season back in the Bundesliga.

While it might seem enticing to have a year abroad on loan, there are plenty of options for the Cumbrian-born teenager here on home soil that would be just as beneficial for him, if not more.

Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Blackpool, Cardiff and Sunderland are the half a dozen second-tier clubs who have Branthwaite on their summer shopping list and all could offer an intriguing place to learn for the youngster.

He is in need of a reboot too having been sent off at Goodison Park when Brentford went on to beat Everton 3-2 last season and the best destination to do that has to be the Championship.

There is no point in him going to the Eredivisie with PSV because they hardly do any defending as one of Holland’s best club sides.

He won’t get such an easy ride in the Championship though with at least 12 sides all capable of putting together a promotion-winning season if things fall their way.

If Frank Lampard gets any kind of say in where the England youth international goes on loan, then he needs to persuade the powers that be that he is best learning his trade in the EFL rather than galavanting around Europe where he will quickly be forgotten about.
