Phil McNulty: Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks could flourish at Everton
Everton target Harry Winks has been backed to “flourish” if he departs Tottenham this summer by BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty.
Sky Sports reported on Thursday 23 June that the Toffees are interested in the midfielder with Tottenham keen to offload the 26-year-old.
Despite his career somewhat stalling at Spurs, McNulty believes he could flourish at Goodison Park.
Writing on his personal Twitter account on Sunday 26 June: “Interesting to see where Richarlison would fit into Tottenham’s plans if they firm up their interest.
“He’s certainly a talent but would it be the right fit?
“Lampard likes Winks and he may flourish away from Spurs, where his career is stagnating.”
Risky move
Is a move for Winks really a good move for Everton?
He is a player that had such promise but has failed to make an impact at Tottenham after coming through the ranks at Spurs.
It feels as if Frank Lampard has to back himself to turn Winks’ fortunes around in the coming months if he really wants to make the 26-year-old a success at Goodison Park.

Winks is a good ball-playing midfielder who could add an element of control to Everton’s midfield and allow the Toffees to dictate the play slightly more.
It is important that Everton don’t pay over the odds for the midfielder.
If they can secure a deal for under £20million then it could be a worthwhile move for Lampard and Kevin Thelwell to pursue.
However, if Spurs try to push for a fee nearer the £30million mark then the Toffees should avoid a move at all costs.
Considering that Spurs signed Yves Bissouma for under £30million, Everton cannot be paying more for Harry Winks.
