Tony Cascarino: Everton set for tricky 2022/23 Premier League campaign
Tony Cascarino believes Everton will struggle again in the 2022/23 season and suggested another relegation battle could be on the cards at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have had a quiet start to the transfer window as Evertonians await a squad overhaul to prevent their torrid 2021/22 campaign from repeating itself.
However, Cascarino is less than optimistic about Everton’s chances in the upcoming Premier League season.
Talking on talkSPORT on Sunday 26 June, Cascarino said: “I’d be concerned if I was an Evertonian because they had a dreadful season last year and got out of jail and got some really good results towards the end of the season.
“Their transfer activity has so far been Harry Winks but potentially a loan deal than an actual buy.
“I am not sure where Everton are as a club at the moment and I think it’s going to be another tricky season for Everton.”
He added: “They lack a lot of things, certainly defensively and going into this year I wouldn’t be that optimistic.
“I am not sure how they’re going to go next year, I don’t see them being mid-table or above.
“It may well be just above the relegation zone.”
Work to be done
At present, it is hard to disagree with the talkSPORT pundit as Everton are yet to get going in the summer transfer window.
However, there should be optimism that the back room changes that are taking place at Goodison Park will ultimately reap rewards at some point in the near future.
Kevin Thelwell’s restructure at the club will take time but will ultimately bring long-term success to the club.
However, it is easy to understand why Evertonians are slightly concerned heading into the new Premier League season with short-term action needed to prevent last season from repeating itself.

Frank Lampard must shift the deadwood out of the club and recruit quickly and smartly to rectify their issues from last season.
The jury is still very much out on whether that will be achievable this summer.
Cascarino is certainly right to raise concerns.
Let’s hope that the Toffees get the ball rolling on the transfer front in the coming weeks.
