Everton: Cenk Tosun nears next club with move 90 per cent complete
Turkish international Cenk Tosun is close to signing for Besiktas after leaving Everton on a free transfer at the end of last season, according to Gokmen Ozcan.
The 31-year-old very rarely featured for the Toffees during the 2021-22 campaign with just three very brief substitute appearances for the club, two of which came in the FA Cup and none saw him score.
As a result, he was released from his contract at Goodison Park once the season came to a close and he is now nearing his next move which would see him return to his homeland.
Ozcan, a journalist for Fanatik, reports via his personal Twitter account that Tosun’s move to Besiktas, now managed by former West Brom boss Valerien Ismael, is 90% complete.
It was Besiktas that Everton bought Tosun from in 2018 for £27million as he went on to play 61 times for the club, scoring 11 times across all competitions.
Failure
Let’s not beat around the bush here, Tosun was truly awful for us and we are glad to see the back of him and his hefty wage packet too.

You could argue that he didn’t get that many chances to prove himself last season under both Rafael Benitez and Frank Lampard but he also didn’t do enough in training or on his rare substitute appearances to make either man put their trust in him.
It takes a special kind of dud to be behind Salomon Rondon in the pecking order at any club given how painfully average the Venezuelan was at times last season.
Ideally, we would be getting rid of him too but with the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin uncertain, we may need to keep him around a little while longer while starlets Ellis Simms and Lewis Dobbin try to make the step up to the senior team from the Toffees’ academy.
