Hugo Ekitike collapsed Newcastle deal could mean Magpies turn attention to Everton duo

Newcastle’s deal for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike appears to have collapsed – and that could mean the big-spending Magpies turn their attention to Everton duo Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano reported via his personal Twitter account on 28 June that the Magpies’ deal for the 20-year-old French striker is “off” as things stand.

According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs Talking on The Football Terrace on 22 June [quoted by The Boot Room] Eddie Howe’s side are “considering a swoop” for Richarlison.

With news of their deal for first-choice target Ekitike hitting a brick wall, it would not be a shock to see the Magpies potentially look to the Brazilian as a backup option in the coming weeks.

Newcastle have also been interested in the Toffees’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with The Express reporting on 7 June, that a “formal offer” was set to be made for the England international.

With their big money move for Ekitike falling through, this is certainly one to keep an eye on.

One massive positive for Everton is that the increased interest in their star men could lead to a bidding war from a number of clubs for their signatures.

Frank Lampard urgently needs to raise funds to reshape and overhaul his Everton squad and the attacking pair would certainly be able to generate sizable fees for the Everton boss to utilise.

Richarlison certainly looks the more likely to depart at present, but Calvert-Lewin certainly needs a move to galvanise his career and a move to Newcastle wouldn’t be a bad decision for the England man.

The 25-year-old needs a fresh start and Newcastle need a new talismanic striker, which he could well become.
