Dean Jones: Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin prime target for Newcastle United
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now the “prime” striker target for Newcastle United according to GIVEMESPORT journalist Dean Jones.
The Mirror reported [31 May] that the Magpies were ready to test the Toffees’ resolve regarding the 25-year-old England international.
A move is yet to materialise for the Everton striker, however, Jones formerly of Bleacher Report has suggested a bid could be in the pipeline for Calvert-Lewin.

Writing for GIVEMESPORT on Thursday 30 June, Jones said: “Everton’s Calvert-Lewin is the prime target for a striker while Diaby is still being pursued as an attacking player to change the flow of their forward play.
“Calvert-Lewin, who Newcastle have reportedly been quoted £60m for, has long been one of the men on their radar and with Everton under financial pressure right now, a bid could be made soon to test the water.”
He must be replaced
Everton simply must replace the striker should he leave Goodison Park this summer.
It appears that Richarlison is edging closer to the exit door with David Ornstein reporting via his personal Twitter account [30 June], that the Brazilian is undergoing his Tottenham medical today.
If Calvert-Lewin follows Richarlison out of the club then the Toffees face a huge challenge in replacing them.
The big question is if Everton can be trusted to adequately spend any transfer fee that they may receive this summer.

An exit for Calvert-Lewin probably does make sense for all parties with the 25-year-old’s career somewhat stalling last season after enjoying an excellent 2020/21 campaign.
Injuries have clearly played their part but sometimes a fresh start is required for a player to rejuvenate their career.
Newcastle are looking for a new talismanic number nine and the Everton man could well be the man to lead the line for the Magpies in their new era.
For Everton, the following weeks will be crucial in assessing whether lessons have been learnt from previous mistakes that have occurred at Goodison Park.
