Everton not happy with £60m for Richarlison but had to accept today to give Frank Lampard wriggle room – Alan Myers

Everton are far from happy at the £60million fee they are set to receive for Richarlison from Spurs, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist has reported that the Toffees “had to” accept the deal before the June 30 deadline for the financial year to give Frank Lampard wriggle room in the transfer market.

Richarlison is said to have agreed everything and completed his medical at Spurs with a deal potentially being announced in a matter of hours.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Myers shared what the thinking behind the deal was at Goodison Park.

“Spurs offered £40million in writing at 4pm yesterday and Everton rejected it out of hand,” he wrote.

“The club are not happy with £60million but had to accept that for the June 30 deadline to ensure Frank Lampard has wriggle room in the transfer market.”

Embarrassing.

This whole saga has just proved how much of a mess we are in right now.

Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri have some serious questions to answer, and Lampard may be one of the first ones to throw them at the board, with this deal papering over the cracks.

Of course, if they had accepted that £40million offer, there would have been hell to pay for.

£60million is at least a decent sum of money but given we may have paid £50million in total to Watford, the profit is minuscule for a player who has only gotten better at Goodison Park.

Now, it is all about incomings.

How much money from this amount will Lampard have to spend? Either way, at least half must be put forward to bring in a new marquee forward who can take us forward.

A big problem is that a new midfielder is also desperately wanted.

One thing for sure is that these next couple of months will be critical in this window, with things currently looking very bleak in terms of our chances for a decent Premier League season.

We will try to stay positive.
