Phil McNulty: Everton hierarchy cannot escape criticism with club in a precarious financial position

The club hierarchy at Everton “cannot escape” responsibility for the club’s precarious position on and off the pitch according to BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty.

Everton are set to lose Richarlison to Premier League rivals Tottenham with The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano reporting via his personal Twitter account [30 June] that the move is all but done.

The news of the Brazilian’s imminent departure was met with criticism from McNulty to the Goodison Park hierarchy.

McNulty wrote via his personal Twitter account on Thursday 30 June: “The main focus will fall on Farhad Moshiri as Everton’s owner but other members of the board – with chairman Bill Kenwright actually suggesting they are held up as an example by other clubs – cannot escape their responsibility for their parlous financial & footballing position.”

Concerning

The next couple of weeks will be so telling in what the near future holds for Everton and Frank Lampard.

The Toffees have been awaiting a big transfer fee to arrive at Goodison Park in order for their summer recruitment to really get underway.

Lampard has always known that departures will need to occur in order for his vision for the Toffees to really take place.

Thus far there has been a worrying lack of rumours at Goodison Park and it has become quite concerning for Evertonians.

Everton

Richarlison was always going to depart the club this summer, with the Brazilian the most valuable asset for the Toffees to cash in on.

The 25-year-old has Champions League ambitions and wants to be performing at a high level before the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Very few Evertonians can begrudge the Brazilian a move to Tottenham, but seeing one of their best players join a Premier League rival is an accurate representation of where the club is at present.

Time for the club to reinvest in the correct manner and whether they can is a completely different question.
