Jesse Lingard ‘keen to stay’ in North West with Everton interested

Everton are interested in Jesse Lingard and the 29-year-old is “keen to stay in the North West” according to The Mirror.

The Liverpool Echo reported that Everton are in talks with Lingard after the former Manchester United man officially became a free agent.

West Ham have been long-time admirers of Lingard after his loan spell in the 2020/21 season, with The Express reporting [30 June] that David Moyes has made the 29-year-old his main target this summer.

However, the Toffees have received a boost after it has been reported by The Mirror on 1 July that the midfielder is keen to stay in the North West.

Can’t work this one out

Everton have been under financial constraints for the whole of the summer thus far.

Obviously, there is a fee for Richarlison that is incoming for the Toffees, but surely Lingard’s wages are still completely out of reach for the Toffees.

The Daily Mail reported that West Ham have reservations over the reported £150,000-a-week wages that Lingard is asking for.

The Hammers are in a far better financial position than Everton at present so how on earth do the Toffees plan on funding Lingard’s mammoth wages demands.

A move for the former Manchester United man just screams Everton.

Everton

It’s what they have been guilty of in recent years and it seems they are still eager to throw money at high-earning older talent.

The start of the summer at Goodison Park is extremely concerning.

It appears that previous lessons have simply not been learned and that the Toffees continue to target a calibre of player that has failed them in the past.

Let’s hope something changes because right now there are plenty of concerns.
