Asmir Begovic lauds Frank Lampard impact in keeping Everton in Premier League

Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has applauded Frank Lampard for “keeping the team together” despite the bad run of results last season.

The Toffees had a season to forget in 2021-22 as they edged their Premier League survival on the second-last matchday and finished 16th.

Begovic, while talking to TalkSPORT as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, stated that by taking 20 points in 18 games after Lampard’s arrival, the squad is motivated to improve next season.

“What he did in the last four to five months, credit to him the way he kept people and the whole club together,” he said. “That inspiration to everyone was first class so we have got a great manager, really good staff and I think we’ve got a good squad.

“We’ll see how the summer works out and what happens but we’ve got some good quality.

“Hopefully we’ll have some better luck with injuries and that kind of stuff this year but yeah we’re looking forward to it and I think looking forward to a much better season.”

Tricky times ahead

Everton are coming in the season on the back of what was arguably one of their worst seasons in recent history.

The fans will be thankful that their club, under the management of Lampard, managed to keep their place in top-flight football, at least for another season.

However, despite that, the Goodison Park faithful must be prepared for another rollercoaster ride in the upcoming campaign.

Star striker Richarlison, who was instrumental to the team’s survival last season, has already left the club and joined Tottenham Hotspur.

Other star forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future is also uncertain — largely because of the club’s financial problems — as he is also attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Therefore, it is imperative for Lampard to ensure that not only Everton must keep of their remaining best players but also add more quality as early as possible to give the players the best possible opportunity to gel ahead of the next season.
