Everton must act quickly to sign Armando Broja after Newcastle eye move

Newcastle United have shifted their attention to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja this summer, amid strong interest from West Ham and Everton.

The Mirror reported on their printed edition (3 July, page 78) that the Magpies are exploring the “chances of a switch” for the 20-year-old Albania star, who is valued at around £58 million by the Blues.

The Magpies would prefer a loan move for the player, and that is something the Toffees should look to do as well.

The youngster was on loan at Southampton last season where he made a strong impression.

He could be given an opportunity at Stamford Bridge after Romelu Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan on loan this summer. But, Frank Lampard must return to his former club, use his contacts, and get him on board.

Despite selling Richarlison, the Toffees cannot afford to spend the money recklessly. They have to be very smart in their business and make sure they add depth in positions where necessary.

Adding a striker to their ranks is essential. Cenk Tosun has left the club to join Besiktas, while Moise Kean doesn’t appear to have any future at Merseyside.

It leaves Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the main option for Lampard, and that is a big risk considering he struggled for form and fitness throughout the entire 2021-22 campaign.

Broja is a young striker who is far from being the finished product. He has shown glimpses of his qualities last season and could be a valuable addition.

With the Magpies now in the race, the Toffees must act quickly if they are serious about landing him on loan.
