Everton must stop exodus of youth players as 2 more head for exit
Everton have recently seen two young players leave the club before even signing professionally at Goodison Park and it needs to stop.
According to The Insider on Twitter, Both Emilio Lawrence and Ishe Samuel Smith are set to reject a scholarship with the Toffees with some of the biggest Premier League clubs in the hunt to poach them.
Manchester City and Chelsea want to sign both of them with the former favourites to sign Lawrence who is a Citizen by heart while Tottenham are also in the race for Smith and City’s rivals Manchester United in for Lawrence.
This follows the news that Rangers have poached 16-year-old defender Cameron Bell from Everton, as announced on the Rangers B and Academy Twitter.
It is a very worrying situation for Everton to see so many young players who are all highly rated by us and the rest of the world given the clubs looking to sign them.
We need to find a way to keep these youngsters at the club and not let the lure of the big six and the Old Firm turn their eyes away before they commit their future to us.
We have a bigger reliance on our academy now than we have ever had with our financial situation meaning we can’t keep replacing players with new multi-million-pound signings.
Anthony Gordon has proven to us all that we have the ability in our current academy players to produce Premier League quality players and he isn’t the only one who has been banging on the door.
Ellis Simms was a sensation at Hearts on loan last season and he could also make his claim in the first team this time around but these kinds of talents have to be kept around.
We won’t be able to play the stars of the tomorrow if they aren’t contracted to us so let’s hope we can stop the mass exodus now and the rest of our starlets remain at Everton.
