Everton takeover race heats up with two new consortia in talks

Two new consortia have entered the race to buy Everton Football Club but Peter Kenyon’s hopes are still intact, according to i news.

Liverpool Echo reporter Chris Beesley had reported on 1 July that Kenyon’s takeover was “dead” but i news have been told that negotiations are “still ongoing” between Farhad Moshiri and the consortium.

No new developments for Kenyon and his consortium, which is majorly backed by Marcel Kaminski, are expected until later next week though with Independence Day in the United States on 4 July likely to prevent any business from taking place.

It is no longer a one-horse race though after the period of exclusivity ended on 30 June with two new consortia now keen to do their own due diligence and talk to Moshiri over a takeover.

The new competitors in the race are both said to be “well-financed” but neither group have been identified and Kenyon’s efforts are still much further along in the takeover process.

Hurry up

It’s great to see Everton attracting this much interest and surely one of these three groups are going to get their deal over the line at some point.

But despite us knowing that a takeover will happen, we could really do with it being as soon as possible because Frank Lampard needs to be released from the shackles in the transfer market.

The boss has only been able to make moves in the free agents market so far this summer with James Tarkowski being the first new arrival at Goodison Park on a four-year deal.

There is only so much quality in the free transfer market that can help us improve and we need drastic improvements after such a poor season that we only just survived.

We can’t o and make the moves we need to until this deal is signed and sorted so let’s stop mucking around and just get on with it.

Time is of the essence.
