Sky Sports pundit shuts down Anthony Gordon Everton exit to Tottenham

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Anthony Gordon is “never” leaving Everton for Tottenham this summer because he is in the right place with Frank Lampard says Kevin Campbell.

Spurs wanted to include the young winger in their bid to take Richarlison from Goodison Park, but while the Brazilian subsequently made the move to London the club held firm against losing Gordon at the same time.

Football London claimed that the 21-year-old would be “keen” to make the move in order to play Champions League football but Sky Sports pundit Campbell has warned against even considering it at this stage in his career when he is in an ideal situation for his development.

“That’s never happening,” he said unequivocally when speaking exclusively to Goodison News.

“It’s a non-starter, that ain’t happening.

“Fair enough you want Richarlison, okay great. But you’re not getting Anthony Gordon that’s for sure.

“It’s not happening. I’m saying Gordon isn’t leaving Everton, so regardless of what Spurs want to do Gordon’s not going.

“We’ve seen this story play out before, i.e. like a Franny Jeffers.

“Left too early, didn’t play enough football, and never really fulfilled the potential that he had.

“He’s got a manager there who believes in him, who’s going to help him develop.

“The manager was one of the best in the Premier League, so he knows what it takes.

“Gordon’s in the right place.”

There is an argument to be made that Richarlison shouldn’t have gone to Tottenham and risked not playing with the World Cup on the horizon, especially when Chelsea could have been an option.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski looked pretty immovable by the end of the 2021/22 season, and while the Brazilian has already established himself as a proven performer it is a gamble for him when he would have been a certain choice had he stayed with the Toffees..

Gordon has all the talent to be a star at Goodison and to stifle his growth after his first proper breakout campaign would not only be damaging for him but a nightmare for the fans.

Jeffers is a cautionary tale as he burst onto the scene at Everton as a teenager but after a much-heralded move to Arsenal his career never really recovered, although injuries were also a factor.
