Everton make official contact in bid to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja

Everton have registered their formal interest in signing Albanian striker Armando Broja from Chelsea this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees appear to be joint leaders in the race to sign the 20-year-old having made official contact with Frank Lampard’s former club to enquire about his availability.

Everton are not alone in chasing Broja though as West Ham United have also made contact with the Blues about the player valued at £30million by the current Club World Cup holders.

The Albanian international enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring nine times in the Premier League while on loan at Southampton.

The Saints are not in the race to sign him permanently though with Newcastle United also keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.

Risk it

In our current financial predicament, £30million would be an awful lot to spend on one player especially if Dominic Calvert-Lewin stays to be our main man up top.

We do have some wiggle room in the transfer market thanks to the £60million sale of Richarlison but we need to bring in a good five or six new faces to put together a team that is going to be comfortable in the Premier League next season.

So even if we could spend every penny of the Brazilian’s transfer fee, then Broja’s addition would see half of it gone in an instant so Lampard may need to sweet talk his former employers into giving him a discounted deal.

If we could manage to scramble a loan deal together instead then this move would definitely be worth the risk even if it’s only to make sure he doesn’t come up against us next season.

We have almost been forced into having to take risks this summer after the dreadful campaign we have just suffered through so this might be the big move we need to make.
