Tony Cascarino questions Spurs paying ‘huge fee’ to sign Richarlison from Everton

Tony Cascarino believes that Tottenham Hotspur have overpaid to sign striker Richarlison from Everton.

Spurs completed the signing of the Brazil international for a reported fee of £60 million last week.

Cascarino, while speaking to talkSPORT, suggested that the North London-based club might’ve paid £20million more for the player than they should’ve.

Everton

“I don’t envisage him in the starting Xi, so that’s a problem in itself,” he said. “If you had said to me what you would price him at, I would have said between max £40million and closer to £30million.

“I don’t know if he’s a good fit for Spurs. I might be wrong, I might be sitting at the end of the season eating humble pie saying that I got it totally wrong. But I don’t see it with Richarlison, and I think that’s a huge fee.”

Richarlison was a player with the absolute character during his days at Everton and there is no reason to suggest that is going to change at Spurs.

Despite his production in front of the goal, no one can argue about his commitment which made him a crowd favourite as well.

Unlike many of the big-money signings made by the Toffees in the recent past, the Brazil international has been a player that was somewhat consistent for the entirety of his time at Goodison Park.

Everton

If the Toffees still have a Premier League status, they have to thank the former Fluminese man for that because he was an integral part of the side that massively underperformed last season.

Even though he tends to play as a left winger, he can also play as the second striker because of his eye for goal.

In his Premier League career so far, the 25-year-old has scored 48 goals and created 32 big chances in 173 appearances [Premier League].

Those numbers show why Richarlison was so valued by Everton and it will be interesting to see if he will repeat the same heroics at his new club.
