Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder eyes move for Everton sensation Ellis Simms

Middlesbrough are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Everton striker Ellis Simms who could be on his way out this summer.

According to the Express, their manager Chris Wilder is an admirer of the 21-year-old and is looking to sign him.

Scotsman journalist Barry Anderson reported on July 4 that the Toffees may even consider a permanent sale, with Rangers and Hearts also keen on securing his services.

Keep him

Everton lost Richarlison this summer and while they are looking to replace him with Armando Broja, having strength in depth is not a bad thing.

If Simms is fine playing second fiddle to the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Broja for a year or two, then Goodison Park would be ideal for his development.

Also, the England international had major injury woes in the 2021/22 campaign so he definitely is not going to be expected to be fit in all games next season.

Like Anthony Gordon, Simms could go on to have a breakthrough season if he’s really going to give it his all and it remains to be seen what the club decides to do.

Frank Lampard would certainly want to keep his eyes on the 21-year-old in pre season and we’re eager to see in which position he plays him.

The interest in Broja could suggest that he’s open to playing two up top and that system may actually suit Simms.
