Simon Jordan: Duncan Ferguson has every right to leave Everton

Simon Jordan believes that Duncan Ferguson is well within his rights to leave Everton and try his luck at a senior role elsewhere.

The Toffees announced that their former player and coach will be walking out of the door of Goodison Park.

After being the caretaker manager as well as seeing himself in contention for the full-time position, the Scotsman finally bid his goodbyes to the club.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan said, “A lot of my friends are major Everton fans and they were in the camp of Duncan Ferguson to be given an opportunity. I don’t feel that he’s a manager.

“I don’t doubt that he’s learnt his trade as a coach that helps influence players but there is a vast difference.

“It strikes me that Duncan Ferguson has every right to go. If he feels that he has the prerequisite skills to find a job within the confines of professional football that gives him the top seat because of what he’s learnt then he has every right to have a go.”

Deserves it

The only thing that stopped Big Dunc from getting the job on a full-time basis was the fact that he lacked managerial experience at the top level.

His results as caretaker were not bad at all and he had already inspired the confidence of the dressing room and was admired by the fans.

He surely will have intentions of managing Everton one day and this is the perfect thing for him to do – to go out and learn his trade as a number one.

Even if it is at a lower league club, the experience that it will give him is unparalleled and maybe after a few years, we could see him back at Goodison Park.

Coaches don’t deserve jobs at their clubs just because they’ve been there for years. They’ve got to go out and earn them.

Knowing the character Ferguson is, we do not think any obstacle will come in his way.
