Stan Collymore blasts Everton as he sends transfer message to Jesse Lingard

Stan Collymore has warned Jesse Lingard against joining Everton this summer with the former Manchester United attacker linked with a move to Goodison Park.

Lingard, 29, is a free agent after his contract at Old Trafford expired but a recent update by the Daily Mail on 4 July suggests that he’s more likely to join West Ham than the Toffees.

Despite Everton’s Financial Fair Play limitations, Collymore has suggested that Lingard would only be joining the Blues for the money due to the fact the club has been in dire straits for some time.

West Ham

Writing in the Mirror on Tuesday (5 July, page 45), Collymore said: “Jesse Lingard needs to make a choice about his next club and stick to it so he can show he’s still the same serious footballer he was on loan at West Ham.

“If he does there’s an outside chance he will gatecrash England’s World Cup squad.

“The alternative is that he keeps making Tik Tok videos and goes to a club such as Everton, one which appears to be falling apart at the seams, simply for money.

“He should choose carefully.”

Ridiculous

What is Collymore talking about?

Football Insider reported on 4 July that Lingard is demanding a contract worth a huge £150,000-a-week if he was to join Everton or West Ham this summer.

Unless he ends up pricing himself out of a move, whichever club he joins he’ll be doing it for the money.

Lingard had a good loan spell at West Ham in the second half of the 2020/21 season.

He had the chance to stay in East London but he thought he’d be better off staying at Man United for another year, seeing out his contract and hardly playing.

Everton

It was utter delusion on his part if he thought Man United would give him much game-time when they were signing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

Everton need to strengthen their squad considerably this summer and they’ve already looked at the free agent market to sign centre-back James Tarkowski.

He should be a really good addition to Frank Lampard’s defence and we’re not against signing Lingard to strengthen the attack either.

However, he’s after a lot of money and that cash shouldn’t be straight-up thrown at him just because of his CV and the fact he did well at West Ham.
