Everton could be forced to sell Anthony Gordon this summer – journalist

Everton could be forced to sell Anthony Gordon this summer, with several clubs interested and ready to move for him according to Fraser Fletcher.

The Toffees already rebuffed interest in the England Under-21 international from Tottenham, after they enquired about including him in a deal for Richarlison [Sky Sports, June 27], and now Newcastle have approached them about a £35m deal [Telegraph, July 6].

Everton are keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract, but according to BBC journalist Fletcher they could be forced into selling him due to their financial situation.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said; “I’m told Everton do not want to sell Gordon but hand may be forced. Lots of interest in him and clubs ready to move. Every player has a price.

“I’m told Gordon of course loves Everton and will remain professional and respectful whatever happens.”

Disaster

Losing Richarlison was heartbreaking but understandable. Losing Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be incredibly tough to take, but also understandable. Losing Gordon though would be unthinkable.

Calvert-Lewin is likely to attract interest and large amounts of money, and after his injury hit season last year the club could be tempted to cash in. But Gordon is clearly the future of the football club and must be kept at all costs.

Everton

It’s no surprise that teams are interested and are trying to take advantage of the financial situation the club are in, but at some point they must stand their ground and say no to a deal.

It seems as though they’re trying to do that publicly, but privately it could be different and that’s a huge worry for blues fans everywhere.

If Gordon isn’t at the club next season, then we may as well all pack up and go home because it’s just going to be a repeat of last year but possibly without the happy ending.
