Newcastle United yet to table bid for Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon

Newcastle United are yet to table a bid for Everton young midfielder Anthony Gordon, despite talks of a £35million deal, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper reported on their online version on 6 July that Gordon’s agent is “testing the waters”, hence the link with the Magpies.

Mike McGrath of The Telegraph wrote on Twitter on 6 July that the Magpies “have been in contact” with Everton over a £35m deal for Gordon.

Everton have already told Tottenham Hotspur that they will consider any offers for Gordon this summer.

At the moment, it’s not clear whether their stance will stay resolute throughout the summer, because it remains to be seen whether the Magpies are at all prepared to put in an astronomical offer for him.

No way

Having already sold Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, the club must resist all temptations to sell their brightest young talent.

Gordon was outstanding for the club last season (2021-22). Rafa Benitez played a big part in giving him the confidence to shine, and he continued the form under Frank Lampard as well.

He is the future star of the club, and it would deliver a bad message should he be allowed to leave, although £35m is indeed a tempting offer.

Considering the fact that the Toffees have been very poor in the transfer market in the past few years, doubts remain whether they would be able to make solid replacements should they lose Gordon as well.

It has been suggested that Unique Sports Management are running the show for Gordon and they are monitoring his developments in the summer transfer window.

He has no release clause in his contract and the Toffees have full control over his transfer fee.
