Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be offered new Everton contract

Everton could offer Dominic Calvert-Lewin a new contract with Frank Lampard “desperate” to keep the 25-year-old at Goodison Park according to The Mirror.

The Mirror had reported on 31 May that the Magpies were ready to test Everton’s resolve when it came to the striker, but it now appears the Toffees are keen to hold onto Calvert-Lewin.

It has been suggested that Lampard is a big fan of the striker and that he is keen for him to remain at Goodison Park for the 2022/23 season and continue his good goalscoring form from the back end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Surprise

It felt as if Calvert-Lewin’s Everton career had very much hit a crossroads after a season blighted by injury and indifferent form.

A move away may not have been the worst option for the striker, but if Lampard reignites a belief in the 25-year-old then remaining at Goodison could well be a good move for the striker.

Calvert-Lewin needs a manager who will get him back to his goalscoring best and if Lampard can convince the England international that he is the right man to get the best out of him, then remaining at Goodison could be an option.

The fans know what he is capable of and if managed correctly the England man could well rediscover his best Everton form next season.

However, if a substantial bid does arrive for the striker then a move away from Goodison Park may make sense for him and the club.

It would be difficult to envisage the Toffees declining a £60million bid for the striker if it did arrive.

That kind of money could be reinvested smartly into Lampard’s squad and make Everton a more well-balanced side.
