Everton: Jesse Lingard move depends on Anthony Gordon Goodison exit

Jesse Lingard joining Everton is dependent on Anthony Gordon departing Goodison Park this summer according to The Daily Mail.

The Liverpool Echo revealed on 1 July that the Toffees were in talks with the 29-year-old free agent over a summer move to Goodison Park.

However, it has been suggested by The Daily Mail on Thursday 7 July that Lingard will only join Everton if Gordon was to move on this summer.

Sky Sports reported (6 July) that Newcastle United have made contact over a potential move for the 21-year-old however it has been suggested by The Daily Mail that Everton are set to offer Gordon a new “bumper” contract to keep him at Goodison Park.

Good news

It is refreshing to see the Toffees understand that investing heavily in Gordon now will reap rewards in the future.

Everton have unearthed a young English gem in Gordon and Frank Lampard has to build his team around the 21-year-old as he conducts his Goodison Park overhaul this summer.

Offering Gordon a big contract will undoubtedly cause the Toffees financial strain, however, it’s a move they simply have to make for the long-term future of the club, as well as keeping Evertonians on side.

Losing their best young talent to Newcastle United would not go down well with any Everton fan.

Lingard is probably a move that the Toffees shouldn’t be pursuing if it has an impact on their chances of keeping Gordon.

The former Manchester United man will be looking for enormous wages and at 29, is hardly a move with long-term planning ahead.

Keeping Gordon at the club will be the best business Everton do all summer.
