Newcastle United ‘talks ongoing’ over potential move for Everton forward Anthony Gordon

Newcastle United and Everton remain in talks over the transfer of Anthony Gordon as reported by The Chronicle on Thursday 7 July.

It was revealed by The Daily Mail (7 July) that the Toffees are set to offer Gordon a new “bumper” contract to halt the advances of Newcastle.

However, despite murmurings of a new deal, The Chronicle reported (7 July) that the two clubs “remain in dialogue” over a potential transfer for the 21-year-old.

The newspaper also suggested that the Magpies Sporting Director Dan Ashworth and Kevin Thelwell have been in discussion over what is needed for a deal to materialise.

Massive test

This will be a huge test of Everton’s resolve if the Magpies push forward with their interest in the 21-year-old forward.

Newcastle’s financial muscle will certainly be the biggest test for the Toffees to contend with when it comes to the young winger.

The Magpies have the wealth, but they also have an extremely astute sporting director in Ashworth who will have identified Gordon as a player that can be picked up for value and developed whilst at St James’ Park.

Whether Everton can stand firm is the big question for Evertonians to consider.

Everton

Losing their prized asset to a Premier League rival will not go down well at Goodison Park, and the Toffees should be doing everything they can to resist a big bid from the Magpies.

Gordon will only develop further if he remains at the club, with Frank Lampard likely to shape his Everton plans around the midfielder.

The Toffees will be hoping the young winger commits his long-term future to the club in the coming weeks.
