Everton must move for Memphis Depay as his future hangs in balance

Everton are looking at several options to replace Richarlison, and they must reignite their interest in signing Memphis Depay from Barcelona.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (9 July), Depay could face an uncertain future at the club if the Catalan giants sign Raphinha from Leeds United.

Depay is expected to join the Barcelona training this week, but the club could allow him to move on this summer.

The Toffees have been keeping an eye on Depay for a while. Super Deporte reported on 5 April that the Merseyside club had enquired about the possibility of signing the winger.

Catalan based newspaper Sport reported on 18 May that the Toffees have registered a strong interest in the Dutch international who joined Barcelona from Lyon on a free transfer.

Sport reported on 25 May that Barcelona value Depay at around £17million, but Everton surely would look to reduce that asking price.

The Toffees badly need a quality attacking midfielder to replace the void left by Richarlison, and Depay would be a fabulous addition.

The former Manchester United player may have failed to light up Old Trafford but there’s no doubt about his quality. He scored 76 goals in 178 games for Lyon and last season managed 13 goals in all competitions for Barca.

In total, he has scored 146 goals in his club career. He has also scored 42 goals for his country. He is also good at providing assists for his teammates, and Everton must look to get him on board.

At 28, he is at the peak of his career. Considering his experience and quality, he would be a cracking addition for the club.
