Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite loan target for PSV Eindhoven, decision next week

PSV Eindhoven are set to make a decision on loaning Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite next week, according to a report by Dutch outlet ED.

The 20-year-old defender broke into the Toffees first-team during the 2021/22 season under Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard, but looks set to leave for more regular football this season.

Reports emerged on July 11 from The Express journalist Ryan Taylor that PSV were keen to take him on loan, as were several Championship clubs, but it’s now claimed that a decision will be made next week by the Eredivisie giants.

Everton

PSV are interested in several defenders and are assessing their options before making a final move, as they look to make a temporary signing following injuries to Andre Ramalho and Olivier Boscagli.

Branthwaite has been of interest to Manchester City this summer too, although they haven’t made a move to firm up that interest as of writing.

Great loan

It’s not often that a loan deal sees a player take a step up in level but this is a deal that would see Branthwaite playing European football and competing at the top of a good league.

He’s only 20-years-old and when he played in the Premier League during the last campaign, he struggled with the pace and physicality of the league.

His red card against Brentford was a horror show and showed that he needed more time to develop before being relied upon in Frank Lampard’s team.

Everton

This loan would give him the opportunity to learn and develop, but Everton must ensure that he’s not going there just to make up the numbers and that he will actually play otherwise it’s a waste of time.

Marcel Brands will know all about the player and it shows how highly rated he is as a young prospect at the club, so this could really be a make or break season should the loan deal happen.
