Everton must follow Leeds United approach as Dominic Calvert-Lewin open to exit

Everton must take a strong stance and follow Leeds United’s approach while dealing with the situation of their star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Daily Mail reported on 11 July that Calvert-Lewin is looking for a move away from Goodison Park this summer.

The talisman striker is valued at £60 million by the club. Newcastle United enquired about him back in May as per The Telegraph, and several clubs could make an attempt to lure the England striker away.

Why Leeds? Like Everton, the Whites also struggled for survival last season and managed to secure safety on the final day of the 2021-22 campaign.

This summer, they have lost two of their best players. Well almost. Kalvin Phillips has joined Manchester City while Raphinha is on the verge of joining Barcelona.

Leeds didn’t stand in the way of Raphinha. The club acknowledged his contributions and got the best deal out of his sale. The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal were in the race, along with Barcelona, but not for one moment, the club buckled under pressure.

They had set an asking price. They got that price.

Calvert-Lewin has grown into a fantastic striker, with Richarlison hailing him as a “top-level” forward last season [evertonfc.com, 20 November].

There is a pattern here. Calvert-Lewin may harbour a desire to move elsewhere, but he has not agitated a move.

But if big clubs show strong interest in Calvert-Lewin, the Toffees must stand firm on the decision. Every player has a price and no way the club should only sell him at the right price, if at all.
