Everton consider Tino Anjorin swoop if they fail to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves

Everton are “exploring” a potential move to sign Chelsea attacking midfielder Tino Anjorin, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Thursday (14 July, page 83) the Toffees are considering whether to sign the 20-year-old in case they fail in their pursuit of Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White.

Everton have signed just one player so far this summer with centre-back James Tarkowski arriving on a free transfer after his contract expired at Burnley.

Plan B

It’s good to see that Everton have a back-up plan in case their pursuit of Gibbs-White leads them to a dead end.

The Daily Mail reported on 13 July that the Toffees have already made a £25million bid for the Wolves 22-year-old, which was rejected by the West Midlands club.

However, Everton aren’t the only club interested in the England Under-21s star with Crystal Palace, Southampton and Nottingham Forest also keen on signing him.

Even though Forest are new to the Premier League, they probably stand a better chance of landing Gibbs-White because the financial situation at Goodison Park still seems to be causing issues.

Everton

It remains to be seen how much Anjorin would cost though and whether Chelsea would be ready to let him go permanently or if they just want to look at a loan deal.

Anjorin spent last season on loan with both Lokomotiv Moscow and Huddersfield, who he joined in January and went on to make just seven Championship appearances for.

Anjorin didn’t even start a game for the Terriers and was an unused substitute in all three of their unsuccessful Championship play-off matches.

In 2019, his father told Goal about how the youngster idolises Lampard and is in the same “goalscoring midfielder” mould as the former Chelsea midfielder, who’s now the Everton manager.

Is he good enough for Everton?

In the future, yes. But right now, we could do with someone a lot better and a lot more ready for the rigours of playing in this Everton side.

Next season, that’s not going to be easy.
