Abdoulaye Doucoure keen to extend contract with Everton

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has said that the discussions about his future have taken place and he is keen to extend his time at Merseyside.

The 29-year-old has entered the last year of his contract at Goodison Park with the club having the option to extend it for a further year.

The maestro was quoted in a report by the Liverpool Echo where he expressed his desire to commit his future at Everton.

“With one year left, you want to know what is going on,” he said. “But at the moment everything is a bit calm. Let’s see before the end of the transfer window how it can change.

“Maybe the club have time to reflect on me and see how they want to plan with me in the future. I enjoy being here a lot. I want to commit to the club for the future. For three or four years more.

“I enjoy the atmosphere and have more to give to the club. Let’s see if the club have the same reflections as me and we can work together.”

In the 2020-21 season, many expected James Rodriguez, Allan and Doucoure will form a lethal partnership in the middle of the park.

Even though it looks phenomenal on paper, the results were quite the opposite as none of them were able to find any kind of consistency.

However, the former Watford man continued to chip in with some decent performances for the Toffees. In the 2021-22 Premier League season, Mali International scored two goals and provided four assists in 30 Premier League appearances [Transfermarkt].

Defensively, he averaged 2.5 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, and one clearance per Premier League game in the 2021-22 season, according to Whoscored.

Those numbers might not catch the attention of some but considering that the Merseyside club had a lot of problems in the last two seasons, Doucoure remained a consistent performer in the middle of the park, giving his all every single time.

Therefore, it will be a correct decision if Everton decide to give him a new contract to keep him at the club.
