Everton to pay release clause to sign Maxwel Cornet
Everton will trigger the £17.5m release clause in Maxwel Cornet’s contract to sign him from Burnley, according to Foot Mercato.
The Toffees were linked with a move for the Ivorian winger on Friday July 15th, with Sky Sports reporting that the two clubs were “in talks” for a deal.
And after ex-BBC journalist Fraser Fletcher shared that Everton were willing to trigger the 25-year-old’s release clause that became active after Burnley’s relegation to the Championship, reports in France now suggest they’ve made the decision to do so.
According to journalist Santi Aouna, Everton want to trigger the clause and get a deal done to bring Cornet to Goodison Park.
He scored nine Premier League goals and registered two assists in all competitions, in what was his first season in England.

It’s rare that Everton seem to make transfer deals that make sense for everyone, but this definitely falls into that category.
Cornet plays primarily as a left winger but is versatile and capable of playing at left-back and even as a central striker too, as he did for Burnley on several occasions last season.
With Richarlison being sold for £60m, Cornet would prove to be a shrewd bit of business to add goals, assists, direct running, pace and quality to a faltering attack.
But it will also offer competition and cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the number nine, which is also positive considering the severe lack of impact that Solomon Rondon has had since joining.
It seems like a deal that is exactly the type of business Everton should be doing this summer, and it seems to be moving in the right direction too so thankfully fans have something to cheer about again.
