Simon Jordan weighs in on impact of James Tarkowski arrival for Everton

Simon Jordan believes that James Tarkowski is better than all the defenders present in the Everton squad.

The England international joined the Toffees on a free from Burnley this summer after his contract at Turf Moor came to an end on June 30.

Talking about the season ahead, Jordan was of the opinion that the arrival of Tarkowski shows that manager Frank Lampard is making things better at the club.

“Lampard now is getting a slightly better blend, people like James Tarkowski coming there will give them more quality,” he said.

“I have been really impressed with him since he’s arrived at the club. They think he’s going to be well. He’s a decent player, isn’t he? I mean, I’ve also seen players running ragged but I think ultimately that he is better than what they have already.”

Commander

There is no doubt that defence is the biggest talking point for Everton this summer. The Toffees had the fifth-worst defensive record in the Premier League last season, conceding 66 goals and having a goal difference of -23 [Premier League].

Therefore, it is easy to understand why they went all-out to sign someone like Tarkowski in the summer.

Tarkowski is not just going to be a defender that defends well himself, he will also be part of the defensive organization within the team which was something that Merseyside club never had last season. He can play the role of a manager on the pitch for the club.

Everton

As much as Everton require leadership off the pitch, they also require leadership on it and the England international could be the perfect fit.

In the 2021-22 season, the 29-year-old averaged 1.8 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, and 5.2 clearances in the Premier League.

Moreover, he had an 85.2% pass completion rate, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process [Whoscored].
