Dutch journo: Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite will join PSV Eindhoven next week

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite will join Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven next week, according to Eindhovens Dagblad journalist Rik Elfrink.

The Guardian revealed on Thursday (14 July) that the defender will join the Dutch side on a season long-loan and reunite with former Everton director of football Marcel Brands at PSV.

Elfrink has now revealed on Sunday 17 July (via Twitter) that the defender “will join PSV next week”.

Good move

This looks like a good move for all parties with the 20-year-old looking to continue his progression.

A move to the Dutch side will give Branthwaite the chance of regular first-team football and the chance to cement himself in the Everton first team when he returns to Goodison Park.

Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and his soon-to-be teammate Noni Madueke are all examples of young English talent that have thrived in Europe.

Everton

Too often younger players are starved of game time in the Premier League and their development is halted as a result.

Branthwaite made six Premier League appearances for Everton in the 2021/22 season and the young defender would’ve learnt a lot from being involved in a relegation battle.

The 20-year-old’s departure from Goodison Park will most likely mean Frank Lampard will look to target another centre-back in the coming weeks.

The Toffees are keen on Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao and Lampard should be looking to step up his transfer business after a slow start to the window.

James Tarkowski is the only addition thus far with concerns growing among Evertonians heading into the new season.
