Everton in discussions over revised bids to sign Maxwel Cornet and Morgan Gibbs-White

Everton are in talks over “revised bids” to sign Maxwel Cornet from Burnley and Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The newspaper reported on 17 July (page 142) that as an alternative option, the Blues have also sounded out Chelsea’s Tino Anjorin.

The Mail reported on 15 July that Cornet, 25, has a £17.5million release clause in his contract at Burnley while a £25million bid for Gibbs-White, 22, was rejected by Wolves on 14 July [Sky Sports].

Time to start signing players

Everton only just avoided relegation last season and as it stands, Frank Lampard’s squad is worse.

Richarlison’s exit has severely weakened the attack while loan deals and contracts have expired in other positions, leaving Lampard’s options down to the bare bones.

Everton need to start signing players as soon as possible and Cornet and Gibbs-White look as though they could be good options for the Toffees boss.

Cornet was relegated with Burnley last season but he was one of the stars of the show at Turf Moor.

The Ivory Coast international scored nine goals in 26 Premier League appearances for the Clarets, playing as a left-winger or a centre-forward. One of those goals came against Everton back in April.

It seems he’d be a replacement for Richarlison if he is brought in.

Gibbs-White is also versatile.

He spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, where he played either on the right-wing or as a central attacking midfielder.

In 37 appearances across all competitions for the Blades, the England Under-21 international scored 12 goals and supplied 10 assists.

We’d love to have both of them at Goodison Park but Financial Fair Play could be an issue in the pursuit of both players.
