Everton links to Maxwel Cornet could throw Andros Townsend Goodison Park future into doubt
Everton have agreed on personal terms with Maxwel Cornet as negotiations continue with Burnley for the 25-year-old winger and that could cast doubt over Andros Townsend’s Goodison Park future.
It has been reported by former BBC journalist Fraser Fletcher on his personal Twitter account (15 July) that Everton are ready to pay £17.5million for the Ivory Coast international.
It has also been suggested that personal terms have been agreed upon as the structure of the deal is still being discussed.
With a high-profile signing potentially coming into Goodison Park, surely Andros Townsend’s future may be facing a little bit of doubt.
Cornet demonstrated that he can operate in a variety of attacking positions for Burnely.
Everton have plenty of options that can feature behind the striker, with Anthony Gordon likely to start on the left. Demarai Gray, Townsend, Alex Iwobi, Dele Alli and potentially Cornet would be competing for the other two positions behind the striker.
With Everton and Frank Lampard having to work on a small budget this summer, it would not be a shock to see one of their attacking midfielders leave Goodison Park this summer.

At 31, Townsend probably looks the most likely to leave the club with his contract entering its final year.
The club wouldn’t be able to generate a huge fee for the former England international, but moving him on would certainly free up the wage bill for Lampard to utilise going forward.
This could certainly be one to watch in the coming weeks if Lampard does add some attacking talent to his Everton squad.
New signings need to start coming through the door at Goodison Park with Evertonians certainly growing concerned over the lack of business at present.
