Sky Sports pundit wants Everton to make strong push for Chelsea forward Armando Broja

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Armando Broja proved himself to be a “really good player” on loan at Southampton and Everton need someone like him according to Kevin Campbell.

The Chelsea striker has become one of the most sought after targets of the summer, with the Toffees prepared to pay £30million for him, but amid a reluctance from the Stamford Bridge side to let him go, and heavy competition from West Ham and Napoli, it is proving a struggle to get him.

But with Everton having lost main attacking threat Richarlison to Tottenham, and with top striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming off a season where he struggled with injury, form and confidence, Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell thinks the young Albanian international is the right move for Frank Lampard.

On whether the club need to push to bring in the striker he exclusively told Goodison News: “I do, I just think Everton need to be able to be flexible.

“Broja proved himself at Southampton, proved to be a really good player on loan.

“And Richarlison’s gone so that threat at the top end of the pitch, you’re going to need.

“Obviously Calvert-Lewin really suffered last season with injury.

“So you’re going to need somebody young, you’re going to need somebody up there who you can count on.

“So why not Broja? He’s a good player.

“And I can’t really see him starting for Chelsea or anything like that so I think he’ll be a good move.

“[Salomon] Rondon on his day can be a good player, but I just think you need more.”

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday (17 July) that the Hammers were leading the race for the 20-year-old, who scored six Premier League goals for the Saints, but on loan.

With top flight rules stating that only one player from a team can be loaned to the same destination at a time that might hamper the Toffees’ options, with a number of other Stamford Bridge talents in the manager’s sights.

But Broja is arguably the main target of the lot so if a loan is the only option then the club should still be doing everything they can to try to make the temporary move to Goodison and not the London Stadium.
