Everton want to step up process to sign Maxwel Cornet after Fulham interest

Everton are still pushing to complete the signing of Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old in order to bolster the squad ahead of the next campaign and had a loan offer rejected over the weekend.

The newspaper has reported that Kevin Thelwell skipped the US tour to fasten the process of signing the player who has also been attracting interest from the likes of the newly-promoted side Fulham.

The report further stated that Everton manager Frank Lampard is eager to utilise Cornet in a wing-back role if he managed to get the deal over the line.

Important signing

Everton are coming off the back of a horrendous campaign where they narrowly managed to escape relegation, courtesy of a win on matchday 37.

To make things even more difficult, they’ve already lost their star player Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £60million.

As of now, the Toffees have only completed one signing of centre-back James Tarkowski on a free after his contract with Burnley came to an end.

Therefore, it is important for Lampard and Everton that they manage to get the Cornet deal over the line as soon as possible because other clubs are also interested in signing him.

The best thing about the Ivory Coast international is his ability to play in multiple positions which makes him an ideal fit for a team like Everton where there is a clear shortage of players in more than one position.

In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old played 26 matches in the Premier League for Burnley and scored nine times along with providing a solitary assist [Transfermarkt].
