Everton target Maxwel Cornet subject to new bid from Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have made a bid for Everton target Maxwel Cornet but have not met his buy-out clause, according to The Times.

The Toffees have made a loan offer that was rejected by relegated Burnley because they want a cash deal for the attacker who can be secured for £17.5million.

With his affordable price and availability 90min on 27 May reported a variety of Premier League sides holding an interest in the Ivorian.

But Everton look to be at the head of the queue, with the 25-year-old happy to move on, and after the temporary offer was rejected a permanent move could be on. The Daily Mail is reporting the club are working on a revised bid.

Newly-promoted Forest have jumped into the race though with a permanent offer so the heat is on, after Fulham also got involved [Mail].

According to the Times report, recently-appointed Turf Moor boss Vincent Kompany is “resigned to losing” the winger who has spent a single season at the club.

Speed up

It is well known that the club doesn’t have a huge amount of money to spend during this window, but this is one that needs to be sorted as a priority if Frank Lampard wants the player at all.

The circumstances allow for him to be available at a knock-down price so the club would benefit from paying it to bring him in and get him training as quickly as possible.

The new bid from Forest shows that the threat is there, and any club could to meet the buy-out and swipe him from under Everton’s nose.

The longer they mess around trying to squeeze out a cheaper deal the greater the chances they end up without any agreement at all.

Goodison News pundit Kevin Campbell called the fee “cheap money” and believes the Toffees should get on and make it happen.

With the club struggling elsewhere because of their reputation in the transfer market under Farhad Moshiri, there is an opportunity for this deal to be done without any chance of another side attempting to drive a hard bargain.

They clearly can’t be cavalier with their cash this summer, but Cornet would never be available for this price had Burnley not been relegated, and he could be snapped up elsewhere at any minute.
