Everton teenager Lewis Warrington was wanted by Tranmere Rovers again – James Vaughan
There is a real possibility that 19-year-old Lewis Warrington will play his part in the Everton squad for the 2022-23 Premier League season.
The Birkenhead-born Toffees academy player spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Tranmere Rovers in League Two having only signed his professional contract at Goodison Park last summer.
Frank Lampard has been impressed by what he has seen from Warrington during pre-season though and could utilise him in the first team at points this upcoming season.

That news was not what James Vaughan, former Everton player and youngest ever Premier League goalscorer, wanted to hear as Tranmere Sporting Director but admitted that last season’s loan had served its purpose.
“Everton knew we would love to have him back, but I think the loan served its purpose for him and Everton,” Vaughan said to the Liverpool Echo.
“He came and performed in League Two to the level we thought he could and it’s only right the lad goes and tries to explore levels above now because that’s where he wants to be.
“While there are loans we can take for our benefit, there are also loans we need to develop for the parent club – and that’s what we’ve done with Warrington.”
Right direction
After the shambolic 2021-22 campaign we had on Merseyside, big changes and big decisions have to be made by Lampard and this is the kind of bold move we need to see more of.

With a training ground like ours, we should be producing very good Premier League players here and there but very few of them have been given the chance recently until Anthony Gordon broke the trend last season.
His unrivalled energy and passion for the club what exactly what we needed in our moments of crisis and Warrington will bring even more of that to the table.
He probably shouldn’t play every single game at just 19 years of age and having only spent half a season in the EFL but he can definitely be a player to spice up a drab game.
It would be the fairytale story of Lampard trusted him against the red side of the city and he went on to score the winner to send Goodison Park wild but we’ll settle for some semi-regular football in the Premier League for now.
