Frank Lampard personally pushes to sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill

Everton and Southampton are fighting for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Guardian journalist said on Wondergoal Podcast on 18 July Colwill is “exploring options” already, and there is a “possibility” that a permanent deal can be reached.

The player wants to play. Frank Lampard knows him very well, and he is “pushing” to sign him, but the Toffees are likely to face strong competition from the Saints.

“And then Levi Colwill I think is a really interesting opportunity,” said Romano to Wondergoal Podcast.

“Because if Chelsea really will sign three centre-backs, (Kalidou) Koulibaly and two more in the coming days, I think Levi Colwill will leave the club.

“He’s already exploring options. Southampton and Everton are really keen on signing him. Let’s see if it will be on a permanent deal, because it is a possibility.

“The player wants to play. He wants to have the opportunity to have some game time.

“So I think this is a very interesting opportunity for Everton, because of course, Frank Lampard knows him and he’s pushing to sign him. But Southampton are still there.”

Interesting

Colwill wants to play and Lampard can return to his former club to land him.

Chelsea are looking to bolster their defence and Thomas Tuchel could allow the 19-year-old to move on.

The defence is one area that the Toffees needed to strengthen following a dismal 2021-22 season, but after signing James Tarkowski, they should look for options elsewhere.

Lampard has a decent chance here if he makes an approach, but the Toffees are also interested in signing another Chelsea player, Armando Broja.

Everton

It looks like Broja looks to be edging towards West Ham instead, but there’s still a possibility.

Colwill doesn’t have Premier League experience, so he would be more of a risk. He would be seen as a player for the future. However, he shouldn’t cost huge money, unlike Broja.

Lampard has already five centre-backs at his disposal, so it is really interesting that the Toffees are fighting for a young defender when they have other areas to fill.
