Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley offered to Everton and Aston Villa

Everton have been offered their chance to bring back their former player Ross Barkley, as per Ben Jacobs.

The CBSSportsGolazo journalist said to EFC Daily (20 July) that Barkley has been offered to both Everton and Aston Villa.

Chelsea are looking to get Barkley off the wage bill. Frank Lampard is a keen admirer and he thinks Barkley is a player with a “huge potential”.

“Ross Barkley is available, and Frank Lampard believes he still has huge potential. Barkley is only 28 and hoping to find a club that plays to his strengths,” said Jacobs to EFC Daily.

“During his first Everton spell he contributed with far more goals than at Chelsea, where his game-time has been limited for the past few seasons. Everton and Aston Villa have both been offered Barkley. The reason for this is Chelsea want to get Barkley off the wage bill.”

No way

Has there been any transfer window where Barkley hasn’t been mentioned as an option for Everton?

Barkley has struggled horribly since his acrimonious departure from Goodison Park in 2018.

He was the cult hero at the Merseyside club where he scored 27 goals in over 175 appearances.

However, since moving to Chelsea, he has found his game-time limited. Last season, he made only 14 appearances for the club, with most of them coming from the bench.

Chelsea have enough depth and quality in his position, and they just want to get rid of him. He is on high wages, and the Blues are desperate to take him off the wage bill.

Barkley has previously played at Villa Park on loan, and a potential return to the Midlands club cannot be ruled out.

Everton do need to bolster their attacking areas, but whether Barkley is the solution is unclear. Clearly, Lampard thinks so, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Barkley makes a return to his former club.
