Sky Sports pundit frustrated by Everton window amid Jesse Lingard and Armando Broja misses

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Everton have spent too much in the past and now the “chickens are coming home to roost” in the transfer market, according to Kevin Campbell.

It is well documented that spending under club owner Farhad Moshiri has put the club in a difficult position financially, meaning there is less to work with as Frank Lampard looks to improve his squad this summer.

But as two Toffees targets in Armando Broja and Jesse Lingard appear to have been missed out on, Sky Sports pundit Campbell is growing weary at the club’s inability to bring in much-needed reinforcements ahead of the new season.

“Look, I just think…” he started before sighing, while talking exclusively to Goodison News.

This may sound crazy but I think Everton have shot all their shots in the past.

“And now the chickens have come home to roost a little bit because now they can’t go and get who they want in the transfer market just like that.

“They’ve wrapped up a lot of money in the transfer market, spent over £500million in the transfer market, and now when they really need to move and shake with a new manager they can’t really do that.

“I just think they have to cut their cloth accordingly. Frank Lampard has to make it work.

“And I think he will make it work. And I think he has to work with what he’s got.

“I truly believe Everton won’t be as bad as they were last season, that’s for sure.

“But there has to be some reality. Because you can’t just spend money willy nilly and expect that when it doesn’t happen you can just go out and spend more money.

“There has to be some consolidation. And I think now we are seeing the consolidation of this Everton squad.”

Everton

Broja looks like he is either going to West Ham or staying at Chelsea, while Lingard appears to have sprung a surprise on everyone by heading for Nottingham Forest, but they were both moves that Campbell felt would be good for the club.

With only the free agent acquisition of James Tarkowski so far secured, since barely escaping relegation last term, it is turning into a frustrating summer.

Richarlison was sold to ease the financial burden, but still the club haven’t yet been able to secure any of the manager’s targets since then, so the disappointment that is clearly growing for the ex-captain will no doubt be shared by plenty of Toffees fans.
