Everton interested in Chelsea defender Levi Colwill – Ben Jacobs

Everton are one of several Premier League clubs interested in teenage Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, according to Ben Jacobs.

Colwill is seeking clarity over his future from the club, and may be headed for an exit from Stamford Bridge if he does not feature in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

However, the CBS sports journalist has now revealed that several Premier League clubs are monitoring the Colwill situation, with the Toffees being one of those clubs.

Jacobs said: “Colwill to Everton is certainly possible before the window shuts, most likely on a loan, but Everton may have to be patient as Chelsea first assess Colwill’s role at the club.

“Levi Colwill is waiting to see what defensive reinforcements Chelsea bring in so he knows his place in the hierarchy.

“He is not trying to force his way out of Chelsea, he simply wants clarity over his future.

“Frank Lampard is a big fan.”

Everton pondering a transfer?

Colwill is the exact type of transfer target the club should be looking at, and it is no surprise that Frank Lampard is a fan of the player with the Everton manager’s Chelsea roots.

The versatile defender exploded onto the scene this year after a hugely successful loan spell at Huddersfield Town, helping the club reach the play-off final, coming a whisker away from gaining promotion to the Premier League.

The centre-back, who was born in Southampton, made 32 appearances for the Terriers, and established himself as a solid and ball playing defender with a huge future.

Everton have been looking for defensive reinforcements with the future of Yerry Mina uncertain and the form of Michael Keane being throughout last season.

Colwill is a young defender, brave in his tackle and excellent at reading the game as well as being calm in possession, all traits of the modern-day centre-back.

They brought in James Tarkowski from Burnley earlier in the window but if they can supplement that signing with Colwill, they could have a solid centre-back partnership next season, strong enough to continue the team’s growth under Lampard.

In other Everton news, the club are considering a move for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet.
