The door is now open for Everton to sign Armando Broja this summer as West Ham pull out

Everton have received a major boost in their pursuit of Chelsea’s Armando Broja, with a move to West Ham now off, according to Fabrizio Romano.

David Moyes’ side had been chasing the Albanian frontman all summer, with Sky Sports reporting on Monday afternoon (18 July) that Everton and Newcastle were waiting in the wings.

Transfer expert Romano reported on Friday evening (22 July) that his move across London has now collapsed, which leaves the door open for Everton.

After a torrid 2021/22 campaign that saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin barely feature due to injury, Frank Lampard’s side are targeting a new striker.

Kevin Thelwell and Lampard have to operate the market carefully given The Toffees’ difficult financial position, but that could play right into their hands with Broja.

Works for all parties

Given Broja’s current situation, Goodison Park might just be his perfect destination.

Everton’s financial woes has limited them to just one signing so far this summer, that being James Tarkowski on a free from Burnley.

They are struggling to pay any significant transfer fee, with the Daily Mail reporting on Monday (18 July) that they all they could offer Burnley for Maxwel Cornet was a loan.

However, a loan is what Chelsea are looking for with the Daily Mail also reporting on Sunday (17 July) that they are reluctant to sell Broja.

With the player wanting regular football next season and Chelsea not wanting to sell, a move to Goodison would make perfect sense.

However, this would mean that Everton would have to abandon their loan move for Billy Gilmour as Premier League rules forbid clubs from loaning more than one player from another Premier League club at once.

Lampard will have to decide whether he values a new striker or midfielder more this summer, but their move for Broja would seem to make sense for all.
