Frank Lampard may be ‘regretting’ taking Everton job due to lack of transfer activity – Alex Crook

TalkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook has suggested that manager Frank Lampard might be regretting taking the Everton job.

The Toffees are coming off the back of a difficult campaign where they narrowly managed to escape relegation. In the ongoing transfer window, the Merseyside club have only made one signing James Tarkowski on a free deal.

Crook, while speaking on talkSPORT on July 22, was of the opinion that the former Chelsea manager has realised that he is facing an uphill task.

“There’s the Frank Lampard situation,” he said. “Now I’m wondering, given how unhappy he looked the other night, he is perhaps regretting taking this challenge.

“Because we know why he took the challenge. He felt it was too big an opportunity to turn down and he felt like he had to get back in.

“Obviously he rejected Norwich’s advances as Everton is a far bigger football club, but already he’s speaking like a man who knows he’s facing an uphill battle.”

Reasons to be Frustrated

After a disappointing campaign, Everton fans would’ve been hoping to see a lot more activity in the ongoing transfer window, something like Leeds United have done who ended up in a pretty similar state last season as well.

However, considering there is a lack of transfer activity at Goodison Park, you can understand the frustrations coming from Lampard. If you have seen how things went sour at Chelsea, Lampard stated that he didn’t get the players he wanted at the club.

If he had decided to take up the Everton challenge, there could be long-term thinking behind this move. However, things haven’t gone as he would’ve expected.

However, it is important that Lampard changes the mood of the club through his strengths. The former Chelsea manager has a reputation for being good with the youngsters.

We have seen the evolution of Mason Mount under him during Derby County and Chelsea respectively. He can incorporate the likes of Anthony Gordon, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Alex Iwobi in a similar manner but it is time that he receives the backing he deserves.
